Tricks To Remember Something Before You Forget It

remember-1-1210334-mYou are only as good as your list. So if your list is missing a few items, you’re in trouble!

Lists are there to jog your memory, so how can you remember something if you didn’t write it down? Sometimes we can be talking to friends and then we have an “Aha” moment, and we remember a task we’ve forgotten. Often it’s completely unrelated to the topic being discussed.

Below are some tips to help you have more “aha” moments!

Put Up Post-It Notes – Is there a task you’re supposed to do regularly, but still manage to forget? Stick a Post-It note in places you often see but won’t ignore.  Make it a place that is kind of in your way so you don’t just overlook it.  Sure the bathroom mirror is a fine place but you might just use the other side of the mirror.  Instead put it on a door handle or  in the cutlery draw so you have to physically move it to use that item. It’s a common misconception that quitting is easy.

In fact, quitting can be quite difficult due to how we view our investment of time. The more we put into something, the less likely we are to quit. Because if we quit than we feel as though those resources have been wasted.

It’s why people keep playing the lottery week after week, despite the fact that you’re more likely to be struck by lightning twice than win! Quitting comes with the constant paranoia that once you stop playing your numbers will come up. Isn’t that the worst feeling ever?

Be More Productive With An Accountability Buddy

CoSchedule Is A Smart Way to Schedule Social Media

cos-logo-icon-orgwht-250x250I’m all about shortcuts and tricks to get more done and with managing this blog — it’s no different.  I pre-schedule blog posts in WordPress so I don’t have to worry about them.  I also use Buffer and Hootsuite to help fill up my social media calendars. That way I can set everything up ahead of time and be less stressed out about having to tweet or Facebook a message.  Plus, I have a day job so it’s essential to automate so I can make the most of my time.

Scheduling social media has always been a hassle for me though.  I’ve had the help of some wonderful interns but it’s just one of those things that I always dread doing.  It’s normally the last thing I think about but something I know is so important to the survival of this blog.

News Anchor Tamsen Fadal Lives by Lists

Tamsen-1002Like me Tamsen Fadal works in the news business, so she knows the importance of a good list. She currently co-anchors the PIX11 News at 5, 6 and 10 in New York City. I used to work at PIX11 too, as a copyeditor/producer for the News at 10.

It’s always good to catch up with people there.  So I was excited to hear that Tamsen just released a new book called, “The New Single.”  And guess what she talks about in it?

Her love of list making!  So I asked her a few more questions about how she does it all.

Why do you call yourself a compulsive list producer?

There is no question about it. In fact, this interview was part of my Monday To Do List to make sure that I got it done. I love having a plan in place. It keeps me organized, efficient and it allows me to focus on the task at hand versus trying to do 10 different things and not accomplish any of them.

I make lists about anything and everything.
