Spring Cleaning Your Over-Stuffed Purse

Recently I was the subject of an intervention.  It’s true — I was out for drinks with my friend Brian and he said “we’re worried about you — you need help.”  Before you start to worry about me — he was talking about my purse! It’s overstuffed and weighing me down. haha!

OK– I will admit that I have an overstuffed bag. I like to be prepared for just about anything — but my poor shoulder is paying the price. So right there in the bar — Brian decided to dig through my bag and help me eliminate.  You’ll never believe what he found:

  • 8 bags of Green Tea
  • 2 bags of Peppermint Tea
  • 1 bag of Darjeeling Tea
  • Kindle
  • Wallet
  • Broken Sunglasses Case
  • 15 receipts
  • 2 Reporter’s Notebooks
  • 4 Pencils
  • Pocket-sized tissues (only one tissue left)
  • 1 bag of Ricola Lemon Mint Throat drops (only 4 drops left)
  • Various To-do Lists
  • 7 Lip Glosses
  • Mini Hairbrush
  • Business Card Holder (with a mirror)
  • 2 Cell Phones
  • Whole Living Magazine
  • Umbrella
  • 5 band-aids
  • ID for Work
  • Earphones
  • Eye drops
  • 1 bag of Almonds

OK, OK..so maybe there are some things I can leave out to lighten the load. I’m going to do my best to make sure I don’t over stuff this bag again.  From now on I’m only going to keep necessary items in tow — and yes, 7 lip glosses are necessary.  haha — this may be harder than I thought. But once I figure out what I really need I will be more productive because I won’t waste so much time digging around for what I need.

Spring is in the air and it’s the perfect time to go through your purse and eliminate! Be practical about it — have you used that item in the last month? If not — it’s probably safe to ditch it and save your shoulder.  So, what’s in your purse?

This made me roll with laughter – I moved to a smaller purse and even smaller purse inside – so today there is a small purse with mirror for lip balms (at least three fit in but that’s all) a coin purse, a “wristlet” for id and credit cards, something for business cards – which could really take the place of the wristlet if I tried, a calendar with extra pages for notes – stamps and some coupons for stores that i might get to, a starlight mint, two writing tools. all the other stuff got relegated to a brief case

Being prepared is great. The stress that a purse or bag puts on your shoulder, neck and back that is to heavy can cause problems down the road.
So I agree with you clean out those purses and get t streamlined.
    I love green tea too.

Holy smokes – you certainly are one prepared lady. I was sure that I was the only one who kept green tea in my handbag. I’m thrilled to learn that I’m in such great company!

ROTFL. Hilarious what accumulates in a purse, isn’t it? My hubby had an intervention for me about a year ago. He offered to carry my purse for a moment and just about fell over. He ended up bringing it straight up to the scale when we got home. Guess how much it weighed: 33 pounds.

Yes. The size of a large toddler. No wonder my back was all out of alignment.

Books and a computer were at the root of my issue. I have since made the switch to a MUCH smaller bag that forces me to streamline. Sometimes a little constraint is a good thing.

    🙂

Wow! 33 pounds! Amazing — I’m scared to think what mine weighed. I did better today — I pulled some things out but I’m still not as streamlined as I’d like to be. Maybe a smaller bag is the answer! Thanks for reading and for your comment Sarah!
