Nutrition Guru Makes Lists

I love finding successful list nerds just like me! I’ve been working with Frances Largeman-Roth for several years. She’s the Senior Food & Nutrition Editor at Health Magazine, a mom and also a list maker!  She’s expecting another little bundle in a few weeks and she’s shared her Food-Shopping List for a Healthy Pregnancy and let me feature her here as this month’s List Producer.

Q: Why do you call yourself a compulsive list producer?

A: Because if I have a notebook or even a scrap of paper, a list will get made! I find that list-making helps to clear my head so that I can move on with the rest of my day and be productive.

Q: What do you make lists about?

A: You name it—I do 5-year goal lists, errand lists, packing lists, and since I have a move and a baby coming up, lots of lists related to what I need to buy and do. I also do work-related to-do lists since I work in a deadline-driven industry.

Q: How often do you make lists?

A: Daily.

Q: What type of list do you make the most?

A: Who I need to call and what I need to buy. Diapers are often on the list!

Q: How do you make lists?

A: Sometimes I email myself lists right before I go to sleep, but usually they are of the handwritten type.

Q: How have you found lists help you succeed?

A: I’ve looked back at old 5-year goal lists of mine and have been surprised about how many things I’ve actually accomplished on them! For example, writing a book, having a child, and moving to NY. I really think there’s a strong connection to setting your wishes and thoughts down on paper and seeing them through.

Q: Specifically what was the last thing you wrote a list about?

A: What to pack in my bag for the hospital: toothbrush, toothpaste, contact solution, underwear, makeup, camera, loose clothing, room spray. Baby will be coming soon!

Just another fine example of how making lists can help all of us regardless of our job or responsibilities. Whether it’s writing down “go to the gym” or “remember to call client X,” I don’t know how I’d get things done without my lists. Thanks for another great post!
