7 Ways to Deal When Cable and Internet go out

As many of you know — I’m getting ready for a big move to a brand new apartment.  With that comes a lot of coordinating and planning.  Our cable company made one very big mistake about our move and shut off our service in our current apartment a month too early!  So yes, we were left without TV, Internet, and phone service for two days.  Who cares, you may think.  And I would have said the same — until it happened to me.

When you’re on vacation, you are ready to unplug, you need it and you want it.  But in the middle of a work week when you are unexpectedly thrown off of your routine and contact with the outside world is ripped from your grip — you get angry fast!  So as I was pulling my hair out with frustration, as our nice field tech Rich tried to get our service turned back on, I wrote out a list.

This is a list of things to do when your cable and Internet go out without warning — like when your cable company screws up or something more dramatic happens like a blackout.

1.  Go to the movies. It occurred to me that we had been binge watching Netflix for so long (House of Cards is amazing!) that we hadn’t actually been to a theater in months.  It was great to get out and see something new.

I spend my days trying to come up with interesting content for this blog and find list makers in unsuspecting places.

While watching TV one day it occurred to me that some of our favorite characters must be list-makers too!  I’ve talked about celebs like Madonna and John Lennon making lists but what about some of the people we invite into our homes every day?

I wonder what’s on the to-do lists of my top 5 “probable” list makers:

1. Ned Flanders (The Simpsons)ned

  • Ask Homer if he is done with my lawn mower
  • Come up with a more efficient way to iron
  • Sign up for church bake-sale

2. Claire Dunphy (Modern Family)claire

  • Call a professional to fix “the step”
  • Figure out the perfect anniversary present for Phil
  • Bail Hailey out of jail

3. Bert (Sesame Street)bert

  • Count the bottle caps in my collection
  • Feed Bernice (his pet pigeon)
  • Meet Ernie at Hoopers Store

4. Monica Geller (Friends)monica

  • Clean the vacuum with the dust buster
  • Learn the rules of football so you can beat Ross in the “Geller Cup”
  • Go out to the stores and get mayonnaise (NOT light mayo)

5. Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)sheldon

  • Buy more hand sanitizer
  • Engineer perfect Spock costume for Halloween 2014
  • Prove to Penny and Leonard that I have perfect pitch

What characters do you think are natural-born list makers?

What Breaking Bad Taught Me About Productivity

Wow — it’s hard to believe it’s over. Breaking Bad has officially wrapped it’s series up. Don’t worry there won’t be any spoilers here. Instead — just a little dedication to our dear friend Walter White and his work ethic.

Say what you will about Walt: crazy, determined, brilliant, awkward, dangerous, duplicitous, deceitful. He is also incredibly productive! He turned out his “product” time and time again and made millions in the process. (Nevermind all the other things he lost in the process.)

Here are four productivity tips I’ve learned from Walter White and Breaking Bad:

List of TV Shows Based on Books

9781476735481If one of your favorite books has ever been made into a movie, you’ve been in that uncomfortable state of great anticipation. Part of you can’t wait for the movie to come out, and to see the book come to life. But part of you wants it never to come out, so that the story will remain untainted by Hollywood — when the movie version ruins the story is just the worst! Like with The Other Boleyn Girl: Loved the book, lukewarm on the movie.

Recently — books are being adapted into TV shows, too. In some ways, I think this works a little better, especially for book series — there’s less pressure to fit everything in a 90 minute movie. So, of course, I made a list of TV shows based on books that you might want to check out! If you don’t have any TV streaming subscriptions, you could always see if you can find any of these TV shows on a proxy site like pirateproxy, for example. These websites allow you to download the latest movies and TV shows on to your devices, so hopefully you will be able to find these shows to watch. Who knows, you might even be able to find some shows that you haven’t seen before, and you might even want to read the books afterwards if you enjoy them that much! Out of this list, which ones are your favorites?
  • The White Queen
  • Sex and the City
  • Game of Thrones
  • Friday Night Lights
  • Bones
  • Gossip Girl
  • True Blood
  • Dexter
  • Vampire Diaries
  • Sherlock
  • House of Cards
  • Pretty Little Liars

How to Know You’re an Obsessive List Maker

Lists (8)A friend of mine shared a Buzzfeed list with me a while back: 27 Signs You Know You’re an Obsessive List Maker. As I read through the list, I realized that, as so many Buzzfeed lists uncannily do, nearly every item applied to me!

So, in true List Producer fashion, I decided to make a list of my own.
