Declutter Your Subscriptions To Clear Your Mind

In the past 10 years we’ve moved away from buying individual items like DVDs, music albums and books towards subscription services like Netflix, Spotify and Audible. In fact it seems like there is a subscription services for practically everything now – you’d be hard pressed to find a big name company that doesn’t offer one in some form or another.  I even saw one for electric toothbrushes the other day!

It’s easy to see why subscription services are so popular, Netflix for example, costs $9.99 a month. When you can have seemingly unlimited viewing for the cost of a few  coffees, why wouldn’t you sign up? But that’s how they reel you in. One subscription for that amount is fine, but when you add in Amazon Prime, a gym membership, snack boxes, Apple music, Skype premium… it all starts to add up. Read more

Can you do me a favor?

Listful Thinking CoverI really can’t stop smiling because we are literally weeks away from a big dream of mine coming true.  Publishing a book has been a note on my bucket list since I was a little girl. So it’s hard to believe that it’s actually happening and my book, “Listful Thinking: Using Lists to be More Productive, Highly Successful and Less Stressed” is going to be coming out in January.  But it hasn’t been an easy road.
It’s difficult to write a book and there are so many to-do’s to check off on the journey to publishing.
You need:
  • Great ideas
  • Time to write
  • Creativity
  • Time to rewrite
  • More time to rewrite
  • A great publisher
  • A wonderful agent
  • Patience
That last bit has been the hardest for me.  This is a culture of instant gratification and I admit I thrive on it.  I’m in the news business after all — the ultimate quick fix. So it’s been a little difficult at times to just sit back and let things happen with this book.  But I’m working on it!
But here’s the good news –you don’t have to wait until January because you can pre-order the book right now!  See — instant gratification!  Pre-orders are a big deal in the publishing world and so I’d appreciate it if you did it.  Better yet — buy a few copies if you want to get your holiday shopping out of the way!
Use “Listful Thinking” to learn how to:
  • Save time
  • Be more organized
  • Be more productive
  • Save money
  • Reduce stress
I even designed a brand new website just for info about the book at ListfulThinkingBook.com.  Thanks for checking it out!

“Netflix for Books” Can Save You Money!

English: A Picture of a eBook Español: Foto de...It’s been so cold here in New York and I’m looking forward this weekend when I can stay inside and cozy up with a good book to relax! I really love biographies, historical fiction, and any book that’s about to be made into a movie. As a kid – I loved going to the library and would often pick the same books over and over (usually Curious George or Paul’s Christmas Birthday.) But with libraries becoming virtually a thing of the past, reading can actually be a pretty costly hobby (not to mention costly for the environment if you’re still buying hard copies.)  And think about all the clutter those beloved books create.

Recently, I discovered Oyster – it’s the app CNN calls “Netflix for Books” because, for a monthly subscription, you can read an unlimited number of titles available in their library. I was completely into the app until I realized that their library had a lot of interesting titles, but very few that were already on my reading list.

But fear not — Oyster isn’t the only app that lets you subscribe and read all you want – BookSwim and BookLending.com offer similar services, but they each have their own pros and cons.
