I love traveling — it’s one of my favorite things to do. I love Paris in particular. I’ve been fortunate to visit many times with my husband. I never get tired of visiting the wonderful museums, drinking champagne, eating macarons, and just strolling around.
On my most recent trip, I used all of my tried-and-true travel hacks to make the most of the trip. Every item I pack has to earn its place — and all of these things have done just that. These are items that pay “future you” back over and over again because they make life so much easier.
Here are some of my favorite travel items that you’ll thank yourself for using:
1) Packing cubes
Every moment is precious when you’re on a trip. Future you doesn’t want to spend time rooting through loose piles of clothes every time you get dressed. Packing cubes let you bring everything you need by compressing your clothes. Plus, having dedicated cubes for different categories of items lets you stay organized when you’re on the go. And when you’re traveling to multiple locations it’s great to have all your clothes easily accessible. I use the packing cubes almost like dresser drawers.
I shared some of my favorite packing items on LTK, including packing cubes from Quince that I love. They do a six-pack of water-resistant packing cubes that compress up to 60%!
2) A designated laundry bag
Whether it’s a separate drawstring bag or an extra packing cube, having a designated spot to store dirty laundry is essential. Everything is smushed together in your suitcase so it’s important to separate out your dirty clothes as the trip goes on. Otherwise even clean clothes can start smelling a little musty. I’ve been using one called STNKY and it’s pretty great actually despite the weird name.
3) Protein-rich snacks
Long days of travel can be exhausting. That’s why I always plan to pack myself some protein-loaded snacks. I love Larabars and Chomps Beef Sticks. They’re portable, healthy, and give me a boost of energy whenever I need one. I also try to drink bone broth before a flight if I can in the morning. It’s super hydrating and nourishing.
4) Stackable makeup set and magnetic toiletries containers
I am notorious for overpacking toiletries, so when my friend Nicole told me about the SUBTL Beauty stacking makeup set, I had to try them out. It’s an all-in-one set of concealer, bronzer, eyeshadow, blush, lip color, and highlighter (and even a small mirror). You can choose the colors and shades you want to include, so it’s fully customizable. It comes in a stack that takes up barely any room in your bag.
I also love the Cadence magnetic toiletries containers. You can get them in lots of different sizes and colors for your sunscreen, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and anything else you need on the go. They snap together so they don’t take up much room.
These two products have really helped me streamline my toiletries bag when I’m traveling. I shared all about my travel toiletries routine on LTK — check it out here!
5) Brush-on SPF
SPF is so important, especially when you’re traveling somewhere sunny. Did you know that dermatologists recommend reapplying sunscreen every two hours when you’re out in the sun?
A sunburn can take the fun out of vacation in a snap. That’s why I love this brush-on SPF from Brush on Block. It makes reapplying easy and it has all kinds of healthy ingredients to give you a glow, including Vitamin C. It’s a powder, not a liquid, so you don’t have to worry about spills! I always have this in my bag when I’m traveling.
5) Stylish and simple basics
You want to feel like your best self when you’re traveling. It’s no fun to feel like you don’t have the right clothes for everything that your trip has in store — especially if you’re doing a lot of walking but you still want to feel stylish. That’s why I always prioritize packing simple basics that can be dressed up or down, like a washable silk tank, a sleek linen skirt in a pop of red, and a comfy (but still polished) black jumpsuit. I took all of these on my most recent trip to Europe and I was so glad I did.
6) A packable catch-all
This might be one of my most gifted and most-used travel items. Whenever I get to a hotel, I set up a little landing zone right away with my catch-all. I put my jewelry, room key, wallet, and anything I don’t want to lose in the catch-all. Mine is bright red so it’s easy to spot. Plus it snaps open and closed, so it can be completely flat in your suitcase.
It sounds small, but having one place for the important stuff means less searching, less mental clutter, and fewer “wait… where did I put that?” moments. I’ve learned that travel feels easier when you recreate tiny systems from home. Future me is always grateful I packed my catch-all.
