Trimming Your Holiday Gift List

We’re back from our refreshing vacation — the weather was warm, the cocktails were cool and we had a great time.  It was just what we needed to relax and recharge. While we laid by the pool though, holiday music was piping throughout the resort! It was very strange to be basking in the 85 degree sunshine and hearing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer playing in the background.

But it just reminds me that everyone will soon join me in their holiday shopping efforts.  If you remember — I started my shopping in August.  I do it every year and sometimes I’m even done by the time Thanksgiving rolls around.  I’m halfway through with the buying and mostly done with the brainstorming now.  Now that I know what my plan of attack will be — it will be easy to get all the shopping done.

One reason I start my shopping early is to stretch out the spending throughout the year so we don’t get one huge credit card bill in December or January. But what do you do if you want to scale back on your holiday gift list but don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings?  I was recently quoted in this BankRate.com article, “How to Trim Your Holiday Gift List With Class.”  Check out some of my tips about list making, of course, and some other secrets too.

List of Ingredients to Spice Up Your Cocktails

It’s almost the weekend and I’m always looking for new drinks and spritzers to try. Entertaining guru Mindy Kobrin has been great in the past with giving me some ideas for ways to throw a fabulous outdoor party. Now she’s helping me again — with some ingredients to turn up the heat in the kitchen for a little romance.

CHAMPAGNE

The bubbly is perfect for setting the mood with its happy carbonation that helps keep your arteries open and blood flowing. Practice safe sipping as noted in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, “It provoketh desire, but takes away the performance.”

POMEGRANATES

In ancient times, foods that resembled seeds or eggs were often thought to be aphrodisiacs and promote fertility. Pomegranates, full of seeds and loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, are in abundance from October to January. Here are just a few of this fruit’s magical benefits: Read more

Save Money on Halloween Decorations

Halloween is just days away and I still don’t know what I’m going to be! I have a party to go to but no idea about what costume I’ll wear. In the meantime — here’s some ideas on ways to save on Halloween decorations if you’re hosting a party. They come from Teri Gault of TheGroceryGame.com — she’s shared some tips on ways to save on your grocery bills in the past.

List of Ways to Save on Halloween Decorations

by Teri Gault

As CEO of www.TheGroceryGame.com, you don’t have to spend a lot of time using creativity to save money at Halloween. Fortunately it’s a time when almost anything goes. So make sure it’s not your money that goes out the window. Please, don’t pay full price for anything!

1. Make Dollar stores your first stop for decorations – Stop and take a look to see if there’s anything you like for decorations, then move on to more expensive stores for what they don’t have. But steer clear of paper plates and cups, as they can be flimsy and leak. Read more

Back to Work Checklist

You know it’s “back to school” time when Target is selling Halloween decorations! So as the kiddies head off to class this week — it’s time to get back to work yourself! Summer months are slow and laid back in any industry. The news happens year round so I guess we’re a bit exempt from this rule –but nevertheless things still start to ease during the summer.

Here’s a checklist for taking that “fresh start” back to school attitude with you to the office today:

1. Get Inspired: Sometimes this is a tough one especially when you’ve been doing the same job for years. But I know you can do it! Check out the competition, read some industry magazines, google some interesting stuff, talk to your colleagues and get amped up about the next best thing! If that doesn’t work – do something you love and hopefully the ideas will soon follow. Read more

30 Days of List Making

It’s day two of the “30 Days of Lists” challenge!  Yesterday’s list prompt was “Goals for this Month.”

Here’s what my list looked like:

1. Put a dent in my holiday shopping

2. Get more guest bloggers for Listproducer.com

3. Finish reading “The Lost Symbol”

4. Try 3 new recipes

5. Eat more dark chocolate — it’s a health food!

After members of the group made their lists — we share them via the private blog and Flickr group. That way you get to check out everyone’s lists. Some people are really crafty and make a little art project out of it.  Others Photoshop some really beautiful lists and still others simply write them out on paper.

I’m a traditional list maker — I use my reporter’s notebook and a pencil! But seeing all these lists are really inspiring me to be a little more creative this month.

You can still sign up and participate in the full month of list making fun!  I’m looking forward to making today’s list: “I’m Happiest When…”
