An Alternative to Marie Kondo’s “Spark Joy” Approach

June 16, 2019/in Benefits of List Making, Fellow List Producers, Home, Reduce Stress, Tool for Success/by Paula Rizzo

PRE-ORDER LISTFUL LIVING: If you’re inclined to buy a copy of my new journal book, Listful Living: A List-Making Journey to a Less Stressed You,” please do it now.

The book will be out in the fall of 2019 but pre-orders are a big deal for authors and it would help me out tremendously.

Pre-orders tell the publisher and the media that this book is going to be a big deal. And I’m offering some great pre-order bonuses that you’ll be eligible to receive. All you have to do is send a copy of your receipt to my assistant at Tabitha@paularizzo.com and when they are unveiled you’ll get them! Thank you!

Clutter – thanks to Marie Kondo is the in thing right now.

Everyone is trying to reduce their amount of stuff and live more minimally.

But living by her ‘spark joy’ principle doesn’t always work for everyone. So how do you finally clear clutter once and for all?

Tracy McCubbin has the answers for you and I interviewed her via video recently.

4 Ways to Organize Your Closet With Ease

September 23, 2018/in Home, Saving Time, Tool for Success/by Paula Rizzo

I am a huge Marie Kondo fan, I love how she know how to make decluttering look so simple. In reality though I sometimes find decluttering and ongoing and tiresome task. Besides what exactly do you do with your wardrobe once it’s decluttered? How do you make it work for you?

Monisha Kapur is a stylist and wardrobe consultant – so I figured why should I try to tell you how to organize your closet when I can just defer to her expertise. Plus she was a student of mine in my online course teaching experts how to get media attention.

In my latest video interview, Monisha reveals her favorite app for organizing your closet. You can watch it here!

Here are some of Monisha’s top tips: Read more

Rules for Decluttering Your Home

April 17, 2012/in Benefits of List Making, Fashion, Guest Posts, Increase Productivity, Reduce Stress/by Paula Rizzo

I recently cleaned out my closet and it felt so good. It’s so much less stressful in the morning. I’m now able to easily find outfits without having to navigate through old clothes and empty hangers. I feel empowered! You can too — here are some rules for decluttering your closet and every other room in your house from organizing expert Lori Greiner.

For Every Room in the House

• Keep focused and select one area at a time. Tackle the room from beginning to end before jumping into another.

• Don’t hesitate, eliminate. Take a day or even a few hours to review what you need and what you really don’t.

• Buy smart. Furniture should have storage areas where possible. This will efficiently maximize space.

• Get a filing cabinet! Everyone needs one to organize bills, important documents, photos, magazine clippings, etc. Read more

Never Go Clothes Shopping Without A List

July 15, 2011/in Benefits of List Making, Boost Memory, Decision Making, Fashion, Learning With a List, Reduce Stress, Saving Money, Saving Time/by Paula Rizzo

How many times have you stared into your closet thinking, “I have nothing to wear!”? It used to happen to me quite often but then I figured out a system for stocking it. You guessed it — a list! Everybody seems to think that clothes shopping is an incredibly difficult task, but does it really need to be? You may have heard of a service called Stitch Fix that helps you gain some new wardrobe options based purely off your own style choices. If this idea interests you, you can find more info out about Stitch Fix by having a look at a review for the service.

I was fortunate to share this secret with the readers of Bneato.com — thanks to Beth Zeigler, the site’s founder. It’s a wonderful site with tips for organizing just about anything. Check out my guest post “Clothes Shopping With A List.”

Shopping for Clothes with a List

May 31, 2011/in Benefits of List Making, Boost Memory, Decision Making, Fashion, Increase Productivity, Learning With a List, Reduce Stress, Saving Money, Saving Time, Tool for Success/by Paula Rizzo

This weekend my husband was cleaning out his closet – so I was inspired to do the same thing. Our approaches were quite different – he was done in 10 minutes after giving each item a quick glance.

I, on the other hand, had to try on EVERYTHING with the right shoes and undergarments. Please! How am I supposed to know if it still looks good without seeing the whole look? This process took me two hours. (I have a lot of clothes.)

Closet-Cleaning Strategy

I made five piles to keep myself organized as I went through my clothes and shoes:

1. Keep: Stuff that I have worn in the past six months and look really good on me.

2. Donate: Stuff that I really loved at one point but no longer fits, I’m tired of wearing or I’ve never actually worn (I know I’m not the only one who has done this! Right?) If you don’t know where to donate your clothes — here’s a list for “Getting Rid of Stuff.” Read more
