10 Lessons from Oprah & Deepak Chopra
“You become what you believe” has been my mantra for some time — thanks to Oprah Winfrey. It’s one of her most famous sayings — she actually borrowed it from Maya Angelou. It’s by far my favorite life lesson. It’s true: if you believe it — you can become it!
I was fortunate enough to be in the audience for Oprah’s show “Lifeclass” at Radio City Music Hall in New York City to learn some more life lessons. The show airs on April 23rd on OWN. My best friend Danielle and I were there — tweeting and texting away! They actually encouraged and allowed the use of cell phones in the theater. It was a very cool day for social media.
I had my official “Lifeclass” notebook with me to write down some key quotes and lessons from the guest teacher – Deepak Chopra and of course from Oprah.
Here’s a list of the best lessons learned:
- “You are not a prisoner of your thoughts. You have the ability to control what you are thinking.” — Deepak Chopra
- “Karma means your have to live with the consequences of the actions you have taken in the past. Whatever you put out is coming back.”– Deepak Chopra
- “Whatever you are struggling with, is a reminder for you to find your true purpose in this lifetime.” — Deepak Chopra
- “The ultimate goal of all goals is to be happy. If you want to be happy make someone else happy.” — Deepak Chopra
- “Don’t get confused between what people say you are and who you know you are.” — Oprah Winfrey
- “What people call their “bio” is usually their ego profile. You are not what you do.” — Deepak Chopra
- “Use memories. Do not let memories use you.” — Deepak Chopra
- “Become the director, producer, choreographer of your own story” — Deepak Chopra
- “The highest form of intelligence is the ability to observe yourself without judging yourself.” — Deepak Chopra
- “The past is gone, the future is not here yet. Right now I am free of both.” — Deepak Chopra
Some of these “quotes” are from the Bible, not Deepak.
# 2; Do not mock God, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
“You become what you believe” is not from Mrs Angelo.
It comes from God as well; As a man thinkith, so is he.
The other quotes are twisted bible scriptures, or simply contrary to them.
If this guy is Buddist, then I understand what’s happening here.
It appears that Oprah and Deepak are trying to combine Christianity and Buddist/New Age teaching together. It’s contradictory though, And stems from confusion and deception. I say this because Oprah rejects the foundations of Christianity.
Deepak, is unaware of this because he himself has no idea of what it is either. Deepak is into “tapping” as well (I know, because some Preventive Medicine sources I subscribe to had him at the convention) He was one of the guest speakers. This teaches healing of ones-self, rather than from our Creator (God). We indeed have the ability (our minds are powerful) but we did not create the mind.
This is simply egotistic glorification of ones self. We have zero ability, to create anything out of nothing. It is pure vanity to turn a purposeful blind eye, to that truth. And to not have reverence, to such a mighty and awesome God. Just saying ….
Thank you Paula, for sharing this information. I am sure it was really exciting to be there.

Another Ch-Oprah-ism I really liked: We are spiritual beings having a human experience. Not the other way around.
Ooo good one! Thanks Danielle.
I loved this post Paula! Many of those quotes are included in my daily affirmations and each time I repeat them they are empowering! With that comes a tremendous sense of personal responsibility, which means we can make a difference in our life and the lives of others.
