They are everywhere – colorful squares, tiny translucent flags – wherever you are, you’re likely nearby a Post-It. People everywhere depend on them for reminders, their to-do list, and to get organized.

At any one time I may have a flurry of sticky notes on my desk, on loose pieces of paper, folders, magazine pages and even on my phone!

But did you ever stop to think about how those sticky little squares came to be?

What are we to do about Orchestra to-do app?

The app will be shutting down today at noon Pacific time.

Sorry, loyal Orchestra users, the to-do app will be officially shutting down tomorrow at noon Pacific time. I know I turned many of you on to the app and now we are left in limbo.

A note from the company stated: “After tomorrow afternoon, all cloud services including sync, task delegation, access to the web app and customer support will be unavailable.”

What is a list maker to do when their favorite to-do app shuts down? Just in time to get you organized for the weekend, here’s a short list of my favorite to-do apps (in no particular order):

I went to the BlogHer conference in Chicago last weekend (more about the productivity tips and tricks on outsourcing that I learned there to come soon!) and met Andrew Mellen, bestselling author of Unstuff Your Life. Needless to say, he’s an expert at staying organized and keeping it together! So I thought he’d be the perfect “list producer” to feature:

Orchestra To-Do App is Discontinued

Another to-do app is shutting down! Orchestra is joining Astrid and closing up shop.

Here’s the story

Despite Orchestra’s great success (ranking as the App Store’s Productivity App of the year in 2011,) the Orchestra team is changing their focus. Part of what made Orchestra a great app was its compatiblity with email — you could forward an email to Orchestra and it would turn it into a task on your to-do list. Somewhere along the way, the Orchestra team decided that they wanted to take this idea a step further and created Mailbox, an app to streamline your email.
