Stop Googling Yourself
I have a confession — I’ve been known to casually Google myself every now and again. Come on…we’ve all done it! I even have Google alerts set up for my name, and a few keywords like list making and to-do lists. But there’s a better way!
I’ve discovered the app and website Mention. It’s amazing and acts like your own personal Internet trolling system. I started using it just before my book Listful Thinking launched because I want to know who is talking about it on the Internet. It can be hard to track them down using Google alerts only. Infact, Google alerts hasn’t alerted me at all about the book. What’s up with that?
So here’s how Mention works:
— Put in the keywords or phrases you want to track. For me it’s “Paula Rizzo” and “Listful Thinking”
–Sit back and watch the Mentions roll in.
–That’s it!
If you want more than two alerts you’ll have to pay, otherwise it’s free. But I figured I would start small and see how it goes. The app has really outdone itself…finding Twitter mentions that I didn’t know about. It also finds blog posts and articles in real time.
Think of all the possibilities:
–Keep track of who is talking about your favorite brands on the Internet.
–If you work with sometimes naughty clients — check up on them.
–Be the first one to find out about ticket releases for your favorite shows or bands.
–Spying on…er I mean…checking in on old love interests or frienamies.
— If you own a business, like a restaurant, you can use it to respond to customer complaints or inquires quickly.
Check it out. Trolling the Internet will never be the same!
