What’s on Your Favorite Movie List?

I have to admit – I really just want to show you my photo with Jennifer Grey. I met her yesterday while doing a shoot at work about chronic pain and a campaign she’s working on. But it did inspire this blog post about movies being that “Dirty Dancing” is one of my favorites of all time! I have literally seen it over a hundred times, I’m sure. I continue to quote from the 1987 flick in my everyday life!  Here’s a list of my most-loved quotes:

  • “Nobody puts Baby in the corner”
  • “I carried a watermelon”
  • “It’s a feeling; a heartbeat”
  • “I think she gets this from me”
  • “This Danish is pure protein”
  • “Where is my beige iridescent lipstick?”

I could go on and on and on! Haha Thanks for indulging me a bit. But it’s really amazing how movies can bring you back to a place in your life and really make you happy.

Here’s a list of some of my most favorite movies…in no particular order:

  1. Back to the Future
  2. Grease
  3. Limitless
  4. The Godfather
  5. Goodfellas
  6. The Princess Bride
  7. Forrest Gump
  8. The Wizard of Oz
  9. Babe
  10. Finding Nemo
  11. E.T.
  12. Titanic
  13. Just Married (haha – I’m serious, I love this one)
  14. A River Runs Through It
  15. The Little Mermaid

I’m sure I forgot some – but basically this is my list. I’m sure yours looks different – but maybe we have some similarities? Please share your “Favorite Movies” list with me! Can’t wait to check them out.

Nutrition Guru Makes Lists

I love finding successful list nerds just like me! I’ve been working with Frances Largeman-Roth for several years. She’s the Senior Food & Nutrition Editor at Health Magazine, a mom and also a list maker!  She’s expecting another little bundle in a few weeks and she’s shared her Food-Shopping List for a Healthy Pregnancy and let me feature her here as this month’s List Producer.

Q: Why do you call yourself a compulsive list producer?

A: Because if I have a notebook or even a scrap of paper, a list will get made! I find that list-making helps to clear my head so that I can move on with the rest of my day and be productive.

Q: What do you make lists about?

A: You name it—I do 5-year goal lists, errand lists, packing lists, and since I have a move and a baby coming up, lots of lists related to what I need to buy and do. I also do work-related to-do lists since I work in a deadline-driven industry. Read more

Checklists to Prepare for Hurricane Irene

I’ve been making checklists since I heard that Hurricane Irene was going to hit New York City. Supplies lists, grocery shopping lists, emergency contact lists (because who can remember anyone’s phone number these days!), etc.

I usually don’t panic for storms and blizzards because working in the news business has conditioned me to handle tough situations.

It’s much different being in an apartment than in a house during a hurricane. This is my first experience in an apartment. Jay is working Saturday night — because the news business doesn’t stop in emergency situations. You can listen to his sports updates on 1010WINS if you happen to be listening to the radio. But once he’s home on Sunday we’ll have plenty of snacks, water, non-perishable foods, candles, batteries and wine — all thanks to my planning and list making. Read more

A Gratitude List

Have you ever started to feel sorry for yourself and gotten in a real funk? That happened to me this week and it’s so unlike me. I’m not an unhappy person! I’m usually very upbeat and spunky. I put other people in a good mood. So when I found myself slipping into a foul mood I stopped myself immediately. What’s my problem? I have so much to be grateful for!

1. My job: Just today I had a wonderful shoot at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx with the Medicine Hunter, Chris Kilham. Chris travels all over the world looking for medicinal plants and medicines. I joked with him today that being in the Garden with him was the closest I’d get to going to the Amazon with him. I’ve worked with Chris for nearly 3 years and have featured him here as a fellow list maker. Read more

Checklist for the Gym

I’ll be the first to admit — I’m not a gym person. I’m not really a workout person unless typing counts. But I do like to walk and I really love yoga when I can get to a class. I wish I was better about fitting it into my schedule and making yoga a habit.  I’m adding that to my self-improvement to-do list.

But if you are a gym person it’s important to know what to bring with you! Melissa Paris is a trainer in New York City and she compiled this list so you’ll always be prepared for your workout.

Checklist for the Gym

by Melissa Paris

Like you I am always on the go! My day is never the same and my outfits may vary depending on if I am working out OR if I am training a client. I live out of my gym bag and have lists for lists for lists! I am a personal trainer, fitness competitor, blogger, you name it…I think I may do it.

There are 5 things that I never leave home without:

1. Extra Socks: Have you ever worked out and either forgot your socks and had to go barefoot in your sneakers OR had to wear the same socks you left in your bag from the previous workout? I don’t know what is worse! I always pack an extra pair of socks so I can have a great workout without sliding around in my shoes and my bag doesn’t smell! Read more
