A List of Spa Vacations

The wedding we went to this weekend was gorgeous.  The night before the nuptials a wicked storm rolled through New Paltz and cut out power to the entire town, including our hotel and the restaurant for the rehearsal dinner. What an adventure!  Luckily we got power back in time for dinner and the wedding the next day.

The ceremony and reception was at Mohonk Mountain House, which is absolutely breathtaking.  I highly recommend taking a trip to see it or stay there if you can. It’s very expensive but I think it would be a great experience.

Being there with all the gardens and gazebos reminded me of another great spot that Jay and I visited. It is just outside Atlanta, GA and called Chateau Elan — absolutely fabulous. Each room has a different theme and the food and wine are spectacular.  It’s also the location of one of the funniest reporter bloopers ever! (Poor thing!  The best part is the anchors’ reactions at the end!  These types of videos are my guilty pleasure.)

We went to Chateau Elan when Jay was living in Chattanooga, TN because he was a weekend sports anchor at WDEF. We had a long distance relationship for two-and-a-half years and tried to take fun and romantic trips whenever we could.  We love visiting spas and wineries.

The Biltmore in Asheville, NC and Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA have been on our must-visit list for quite a bit.  I’d also love to get to Miraval Spa in Arizona. That’s the spa that Oprah and Gayle visited a few years back.  She also gave her entire audience of best friends that same vacation in her final season. That show taped just a few days before the one that I was in the audience to see!  Too bad!! We’ll get there eventually though…

So what’s on your vacation destination list?

Thanks for giving me some new places to add to my must-visit list! Mohonk Mountain House is simply breathtaking and I agree, it’s worth saving up for a splurge if you can. One of my top picks for a getaway is Gurney’s Inn in Montauk. The spa is heavenly! I love to enjoy a massage, sit in a eucalyptus-infused steam room, take a swim in the indoor sea water pool and then retreat to a lounge chair on the beach. If you go off-season, the ocean front rooms are cheaper and they have good package deals for gal-pal or couple getaways.
