Hail a Cab From Your Phone

photoEver had trouble hailing a cab? If you’re a New Yorker…I’m talking to you.  Well, as it turns out — there’s an app for that! (Haha) Maybe you’re caught out in the rain, or carrying a ton of groceries. You’d love to grab a cab ride home, but easier said than done, right? Not anymore — with the help of Hailo, you can hail a cab from your phone!

I tried it out a few weeks ago and I have to say it was  quick and easy! All you have to do is choose a location to be picked up and the app will tell you the name of your cab driver, his phone number, and how long you’ll need to wait. You even can track where the cab is on your phone, so no need to waste time waiting outside.

Summer is the perfect season to tackle a few items on your life to-do list. Nature is in full bloom — and there’s no reason you shouldn’t be too!

In an interview with the Ladies’ Home Journal, Diane Lane revealed that she recently created a bucket list. (And it’s a total of four pages long!) Her list has a nice variety of entries, including “Building a really cool tree house” and “Do a handstand away from the wall and hold it for more than a second.”

If you want to learn another language or travel around the country – it’s never too late to begin writing your own bucket list!

Here’s a few reasons why now is the perfect time to cross some life goals off your list right now:
  • Big or small, every item has a place in your bucket list for a reason, and chances are that reason hasn’t changed. Give yourself the opportunity to have one of your dreams come true, no matter how small!
  • This is the perfect way to break yourself out of your normal routine. It’s easy to get lulled into a pattern where every week is almost the same as the last. Doing something new will give you new energy and resilience.
  • Carpe diem! The whole reason to make a bucket list is make sure you don’t miss out on anything in life. It’s time to take the sentiment to heart!

Take a Trip Down Memory Lane

Just last week an old friend (as in we’ve known each other a long time — not old like she’s actually old. I’m sure she would want me to clarify) dragged me to a concert.  I’m half excited and half embarrassed to tell you we went to the New Kids on the Block concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  Eee — I know! So I really didn’t want to go and she made me.  And I’m really glad she did.

It’s was so fun to hear all those old songs again and remember what life was like back in the 90s. haha!  I had a smile on my face the whole time. (Maybe some of that had to do with the Pinot Grigio…but I digress.)  So I wanted to take the opportunity to tell all of you how good for your soul a little trip down memory lane can be!  Whether it’s music, pictures or even clothes — remembering the past can be a blast.

Remember how much fun it was for Carrie and the girls from Sex and the City?

Summer is here and it can be hard to escape the “school’s out” mentality.  Co-workers are leaving for vacation, and the office is slowing down. The sun’s out and all anyone wants to do is head to the beach or camp out poolside. It’s easy to start counting down the days until your own vacation.

This can be tempting, but we can’t spend the whole season with our minds somewhere else — unfortunately! It’s important to keep a good balance between your work and the rest of your life, especially in the summer.
Here are 4 ways to stay focused when it matters:

5 Reasons to Say No and Get More Done

NO!

NO! (Photo credit: guercio)

Everyone wishes they had more time — more hours in a day and more days in a year. Who would have thought that making more time for yourself could be as simple as saying “no?”  Yep — that one word will give you your life back.

It’s easy to agree to a coffee break or to see that movie your friend has been obsessed with for weeks. But its important not just to say “yes” as a default answer. Do you really want to drop whatever you’re doing to get coffee? Or just not say “no” to a friend? We all end up saying “yes” to things we don’t actually want to do.  Then you don’t get to do the things you really want to do.  Of course, there are some things that you just can’t get out of.   Read more
