Tech Goddess Makes Lists Work For Her
As far as self-professed nerds go — Carley Knobloch is the coolest. I would call her a tech goddess in fact. I’ve talked about her site former Digitwirl.com because I really think it’s great. It’s a site dedicated to technology, apps, websites and products to make your life easier. Carley is also a featured speaker at BlogHer12.
She produces high-quality video and tips that are informative, quirky and cute. I’ve shared a few here for you to check out and will continue to do that. Digitwirl is how I learned about Smore.com, which I used to make my “Lists & Libations” Meetup flyer.
Carley isn’t only a tech nerd…er goddess..she’s also a list maker! So she’s this month’s featured list producer:
Q: Why do you call yourself a compulsive list producer?
A: List-making is cathartic— you get everything out of your brain, and once it’s all on paper, you can really start to focus!
Q: What do you make lists about?
A: Groceries, business tasks, editorial ideas, kids lunch items, remodeling ideas… pretty much everything.
Q: How often do you make lists?
A: Once a day for sure. Ideally before bed, but if I don’t do that, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and my brain is in overdrive. In that case, making a quick list in the dark is the best way for me to get back to sleep.
Q: What type of list do you make the most?
A: Current to-dos.
Q: How do you make lists?
A: My lists are all over the place, but my goal is to have them centralized. I use Asana, a task management app, for business tasks which I can organize by project. I also have a “Personal” workspace where I keep personal tasks. But I like pen/paper too, and sometimes that’s what’s readily available. So I have lists in my notebooks, but I try my best to transfer them over to Asana so everything’s in one place.
Q: How have you found lists help you succeed?
A: If my brain doesn’t have to remember minutia, it can focus on what it’s good at: Solving problems and doing the work. So making list frees me up to be calmer and more productive.
Q: Specifically what was the last thing you wrote a list about?
A: LOL— Guest blog posts I needed to write!

I would recommend checking out http://www.Gtdagenda.com for an online task manager.
You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, and a calendar.
Syncs with Evernote, and also comes with mobile-web version, and Android and iPhone apps.
Hey Dan, this is great! I will definitely check it out. Thanks for reading!
We could be twins Carly, haha. I make lists all the time, like you said if i didn’t i would never get to sleep at night. I am just finding my way around Evernote, which isn’t as easy as it seems, so i still rely alot on pad and paper.Oh and i also have curly hair, the twin thing again. Thanks again for all your great advice on your vlogs, I am loving them.
